05 / Research Data Sharing

We share anonymised gait movement data with academic researchers. This section explains exactly what is and is not shared, and how to opt out.

What We Share With Researchers

We work with academic and sports science researchers to advance understanding of human running biomechanics. We may share the following, all of which is fully stripped of personal identifiers before transfer:

What We Never Share With Researchers

We will never share the following with researchers or any third party in identifiable form: your name, email address, or username; your height, weight, age, or gender; any information that could identify you as an individual; your account credentials or contact details.

Before any data — including video recordings — is shared with a research partner, all personal identifiers are removed. Videos are anonymised so that no individual can be identified from them. Research partners are contractually prohibited from attempting to re-identify any individual from the data we provide.

Your Right to Opt Out

You will be asked for consent to research data sharing during onboarding. You can withdraw consent at any time via Profile → Settings → Research Data Sharing. Withdrawing consent will not affect your access to any Recura features.

Research Partner Standards

We only work with partners affiliated with recognised academic or sports science institutions who have obtained appropriate ethical approval, agree in writing to our data-sharing terms including prohibition on re-identification, and use data solely for the stated research purpose.

06 / Authentication and Security

We use Firebase Authentication to securely manage accounts. Security measures include password hashing using industry-standard cryptographic methods, email verification for new accounts, encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure cloud storage via Firebase and Google Cloud Platform, and access controls limiting which personnel can access personal data.

07 / Data Storage and Retention

Data is stored in secure data centres operated by Google Cloud Platform, primarily in the EU and US, subject to appropriate transfer safeguards under UK GDPR. We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, personal data is removed within 30 days, except where legally required to retain it.

We do not sell your personal data. We share data with the following service providers only as necessary to operate the Service:
